Development

Development at the airfield is controlled via Airfield Management Plans and Development Control plans. The first Airfield Management plan was prepared by the Steering committee and submitted for concent approval by the Esk Shire Council in 1987. The Council refused its approval and as a result the Associalion took the Council to the Land and Environment Court. As part of the settlement, the Council approved the plan in 1989.

This plan set the basic layout of the airfield which still exists to this day however this management plan had problems, mainly with regards to the layout of the private hangar area. In that early management plan, there were a number of nominated private hangar sites and the private hangar layout proved to be unsuitable in practice, mainly due to the slope of the land in the area.

Air Chalets are the only form of development where as part of that development living accomadation is allowed. The concept of a air chalet is a hangar with accomadation attached. The hangar area of the air chalet is to be used for private use. The concept of an Air Chalet Precinctis a relatively new one to the airfield. It was introduced iabout 1997. This new concept was introduced as the result of discussions between Ross Stenhouse, Tony Haves and the then association President Gus De Laat.
